Dallas Bound

This weekend we loaded up the car and headed to Dallas! Yes, I know it seems like we have something planned every single weekend, and we really do...And we thought last summer was busy! We headed to Dallas to visit with Kurt's Dad, who we haven't seen since before Thanksgiving. I actually forgot that I had my camera the entire weekend until we met up with some friends on Saturday night. We didn't get to town until late Friday night, and hit the sack shortly afterwards.
On Saturday we had lunch at Sneaky Petes on Lake Lewisville - it was definitely hot sitting outside, but the food was tasty. We then took a tour of the Gaylord Texan hotel that was nearby. Kurt and I had never seen it before but heard about it. Pretty cool place! Then we went to a theater that served food and beverages during the movie. We saw the Hangover, which was funny, but definitely a guy's movie. On Saturday night, we met up with Kurt's good friend Rory and his wife Roxy. We hadn't seen them since our wedding last summer, so it was great catching up. We ate sushi and then stopped by this chic hotel (NYLO) to check out the scene. It was very modern and had a fun atmosphere. We stayed for a bit but headed back to his Dad's afterwards, so we could get up in the morning in time to be back in town so I could tutor on Sunday afternoon. We had another great weekend, and it was nice getting to see Kurt's Dad and visit with great friends.

Our First Wedding Anniversary

It's hard to believe that we've been married for one year already. It seems like just yesterday we were saying our vows and dancing the night away at our wedding - what a weekend it was! Even though we couldn't do it all over again, we decided to get out of town away from the city to relax. We headed for the Hill Country and spent the weekend in Fredericksburg at a wonderful Bed & Breakfast about 5 miles outside of town. It was the perfect getaway! We talked about the wedding and everything else we were doing one year ago at this time. We are both so blessed to have amazing family and friends that support us and have helped us get through our first year of marriage. Kurt told me over the weekend..."if they say the first year is supposed the be the hardest, then the rest should be a piece of cake!" We really hope that's the truth. I am so lucky to have a husband by my side that supports me and makes me feel just like I did when we first started dating over 5 years ago. We definitely are fortunate to have found each other, and we can't wait to see what this life has planned for our future together!

Okay so enough of the mushy stuff..back to our weekend. We arrived on Friday afternoon, and checked into our B&B before we headed down to Main Street for dinner and then to the Rockbox Theater for entertainment. The theater was fun, but we were hoping for more comedy and not so much singing. It was good though. On Saturday we had a great breakfast and then visited some local wineries. Since Luckenbach was close, we decided to swing by. They were having an antique car show on Saturday and a live band was playing on their stage. It was fun and some of the cars were incredible! On Saturday night we went to a nice dinner to celebrate our anniversary - the Cabernet Grill was very tasty! We were sad to leave on Sunday but once we got closer to home, it was nice to be back in the area.

On Sunday evening, some of Kurt's family wanted to get together for dinner, so we decided to bring our wedding cake top along to share. It would have been way too much for the two of us, so everyone got to sample it at dinner. We actually ended up using Kurt's cake top. We had both of our tops in the freezer, but mine was huge! It's still freezing, but hopefully we'll have an occasion soon where we can share it with family and friends. Overall, it was a great weekend and we enjoyed getting away to celebrate our first year of marriage! I can't believe how fast that first year went...I'm just imagining that the others will go by even faster. We're hoping to get by to see our Dads soon, as we missed getting to visit since Father's Day fell on the same day as our anniversary. We didn't forget about you guys, and we can't wait to see you soon.

First Annual Girl's Weekend

What a weekend! Some of my college friends from A&M and I decided to start an annual (or bi-annual) girl's weekend since we don't get to see each other as often as we'd like to. Over the past two years, we've all gotten married and settled into jobs and our lives after college, which means we've been busy! Now that we're all married, we don't get to see each other at showers, bachelorette parties, and each other's weddings, so we made a weekend for us to all catch up in San Antonio. We stayed at a great hotel on the riverwalk, thanks to Kristina for setting it all up, and we were able to walk nearly everywhere we wanted to go. We went to dinner at Ritas on the River Friday night and then made a night on the river as we headed to a 3-story bar that had music from the 70's, 80's, and 90's on each floor. It was a blast!

On Saturday everyone woke up pretty exhaused, so we decided to lay around the hotel pool for a while and get some sun. We ate a quick lunch at our hotel before heading to the shops at La Cantera. It's an outdoor, open-air mall that was awesome! It was like the galleria, but just outdoors...very fun. We had dinner reservations afterwards at Paloma Blanca, where we feasted on fantastic mexican cuisine and had skinny margaritas..it was great and a must-try if you're ever in San Antonio. After dinner, we went to Silo's (bar) and then decided we were so tired, and headed back to our hotel for some late-night gossip and bed! It was a blast hanging out with such great friends, and we all picked up right where we left off the last time we were all together. We're already planning next year's trip with several destinations in mind! I am so thankful to have wonderful friends!

While I was away, Kurt decided to hang around the house. Kyle stayed with him and the guys had a sleepover for the weekend. Kelli was able to join them on Saturday for burgers, and Kurt said the three of them hadn't been able to hang out since high school, which was great for them to catch up. It was great, busy weekend for us both!
